Biography

Etienne Saint-Amant is a Canadian artist with a Master's degree in science, specializing in technological art. He designs works described completely or partially in mathematical language. He is a specialist, speaker, and pioneer in this field. He is the author of formulas and equations that translate into various tools for artistic composition. He is dedicated to conceptual research as well as the creation of contemporary works of art.
After several years dedicated to the development of mathematical arts, he presented his first solo exhibition, Aleph, in 2003, in Sherbrooke. Subsequently, solo and group exhibitions have followed on both the Canadian and international scenes. He has won several grants, prizes, distinctions, and glowing recommendations. He was one of Canada's representatives in visual arts at the Shanghai World Expo at the Canada Pavilion with his work Mégalithes.
His work has been exhibited in several prestigious institutions, such as the Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts in 2021, the Baie-Saint-Paul Museum of Contemporary Art in 2022, as well as the Marius Barbeau Museum in 2020.
As a member of the Sherbrooke Connectivity Imaging Lab (SCIL), he creates a medical brain image of his white matter network, which he modifies mathematically and structurally. His works Autoportrait I and Autoportrait II resulted from this process.
In 2020, he released his first supercomputed work: an extremely detailed animation of the piece Idéaux impossibles, created in collaboration with the Scientific Computing Center of the Université de Sherbrooke.
He is also the co-founder and artistic director of Club Art Nano, a club for exploring art and nanotechnology in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation (3IT) and the Nanotechnologies and Nanosystems Laboratory (LN2).
His work can be found in several public, institutional, and private collections. He is the lead artist for architecture integration projects—a field of expertise he is particularly fond of.
Etienne Saint-Amant is an artist originally from Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. His creative studio is currently located in Orford, in the Eastern Townships.
